for the Enterprise
Validate usage, find productivity improvements, identify excess software/SaaS/database licenses.
Intensity has a featherlite app that accumulates data on Windows computers (servers, PCs, laptops) without human effort. The resulting data can be delivered in secure, web-based reports or piped into any other reporting or business intelligence format.
The featherlite Intensity app is installed on any Windows machine and thereafter measures what we call the
TickStream® - all computer activity, both on- and off-web, including use of local or networked software. The TickStream is about not only measuring what a user is doing when, but the extent to which he/she is also doing other computing tasks at the same time. We call this Simultaneity & Fragmentation.
Commercial and government organizations are using Intensity to:
- Continually validate computer usage: For example, are telecommuters effective? Are Customer Service Reps using Oracle CRM a solid eight hours a day?
- Finding productivity improvements: Getting the right computing tasks to the right employees; keeping them focused.
- Discover under-utilization of software/SaaS/database licenses as part of what’s called Spend Management.
Enterprises either push the featherlite Intensity app on to Windows PCs and laptops via their System Center Configuration Manager or the equivalent, or by having employees download from a secure Intranet page.
The Intensity app never sees what a user types, or any screen content, whatsoever.
Moreover, we have a set of controls that allows management to customize this lens into desktop computing. For example, management can see web use as a broad category, or individual URLs visited. Management can choose to see when computers are on-and-active, or on-and-idle, or off, and restrict this view to certain work hours if desired. And Intensity reports can show all activity on- and off-web, or just register the use of pre-determined local or networked software, or websites/SaaSes.
The
TickStream® data can be stored at our data center (“the cloud”), or at the customer’s premises on a rackable NT appliance running SQL Server. Data can be archived for a settable period at the aggregate level only, or also with individual detail.
Sample RoI: The Intensity app is deployed on 500 desktops, where the average software/SaaS/database spend is $200/month per seat, and the average loaded employee cost is $4,000/month. The Intensity canned, web-based report called PREDOMINANT USE helps the organization achieve a 5% productivity gain, or $200/month per seat. And the Intensity canned, web-based report called SPEND MANAGEMENT finds 15% savings in software/SaaS/database expenditures, or $30/month savings per seat.
GRAND TOTAL effect from deploying Intensity on 500 desktops is thus 500 x $230/month, which is $115,000 per month or $1,380,000 for the year-- $2,760 per seat. The cost of the Intensity service is a fraction of these savings.
for Market Research
License data from our consumer panels across the globe, or create your own focused Micro-Panels.
Intensity has a featherlite app that accumulates data on Windows computers (PCs, laptops) without human effort. The resulting data can be delivered in secure, web-based reports or piped into any other reporting or business intelligence format.

The Intensity app never sees what a user types, or any screen content, whatsoever.
Intensity serves Market Researchers in that they can license data from our big consumer panel of users across America, or easily/quickly make their own panels - what we call Micro-Panels. Anyone can license data from our Big Panel (users who have downloaded the free app from www.tickstream.com). But the data from a Micro-Panel? That belongs only to the maker of the Micro-Panel.
You can project the behavior of your entire target market off a surprisingly small panel of computer users equipped with the Intensity application (here’s a calculator to figure out an optimal sample size: www.tinyurl.com/sampleset).
You simply select a random sample of people from your overall population, and ask them to download the free, featherlite Intensity app, from a landing page we’ll set up for you that can reflect your name and live on your website, or on our generic panelstart.com platform.
Some percentage of those you ask to download the app actually will download and install the app - this becomes your Micro-Panel, and real-time and historical data will then flow seamlessly into secure, web-based reports.
The notion is that you can draw conclusions about your entire population based on the computing behavior from this randomly selected group of people. You’ll be able to look at aggregate behavior and answer questions such as these:
- When is the computer typically on-and-active, on-but-idle, and off?
- In what order do your users compute throughout the day, web and non-web?
- What websites are most visited, and for how long? What are users doing at the same time?
- To what extent do users engage with audio and video on their computers? Again, while doing what else?
- What local software is used, and for how long? With what relative level of focus?
We have a facile set of controls for Market Researchers. To name just three adjustable dials -
- The app can be set to disappear (uninstall) from users’ computers after a certain period.
- If users uninstall during the measurement period, or go dark for “n” days, the Micro-Panel owner is notified.
- Aggregate level data can be viewed in the admin dashboard, or both aggregate and individual detail.
The
TickStream® data can be stored at our data center (“the cloud”), or at the Market Research customer’s premises on a rackable NT appliance running SQL Server. Data can be archived for a settable period at the aggregate level only, or also with individual detail.
The predominant activity of our era is gazing into a computer screen at-work and at-home. Know thy users.
for Call Centers
You have voice analytics - add desktop analytics. See what reps do when on their computers to optimize efficiency, whether they're local or remote.
Intensity has a free, featherlite app that accumulates data on Windows computers (servers, PCs, laptops) without human effort. The resulting data (real-time and historical) from multiple computers can be piped into existing software or SaaS platforms, or delivered in secure, web-based reports. This is called Desktop Analytics.
Intensity is a powerful way to keep track of desktop activity in a centralized Call Center operation, or of distributed service representatives.
Our app never sees what a user types, or any screen content, whatsoever.
The free, featherlite Intensity app measures what we call the TickStream™-- all computer activity, both on- and off-web, including local or networked software. The TickStream is about not only measuring what a user is doing when, but the extent to which he/she is also doing other computing tasks at the same time. We call this Simultaneity & Fragmentation.
The Intensity app on multiple Windows machines used by Call Center reps gives managers insight into PREDOMINANT USE— that is, what do workers predominantly do on their computers per time period? And PREDOMINANT USE is just one of the canned reports that we deliver via the web.
Frittering time away is epidemic in the modern office: A 2007 survey of 2,000 workers from Salary.com, a website that provides compensation data, found that Americans waste about 20% of their time at work; with 34.7% of those surveyed saying surfing the Internet is the biggest distraction.
A series of Intensity controls face the Call Center manager, to optimally measure and monitor reps that are nearby or working from remote or home offices -

for OEM's
Pipe desktop usage data into your software or SaaS platform. Know how your program or website is used, versus the totality of use.
Intensity has a free, featherlite app that accumulates data on Windows computers (servers, PCs, laptops) without human effort. The resulting data from 1-n computers (real-time and historical) can be piped into existing apps or SaaS platforms. This is called Desktop Analytics.
Intensity has been designed from ground-up as an OEM plug-in.
Our app never sees what a user types, or any screen content, whatsoever.
The free, featherlite Intensity app measures what we call the
TickStream® - all computer activity, both on- and off-web, including local or networked software. The TickStream is about not only measuring what a user is doing when, but the extent to which he/she is also doing other computing tasks at the same time. We call this Simultaneity & Fragmentation.
The Intensity app can be re-branded (“white-labeled”) and seamlessly knit into a SaaS or software offering, so that you can know the circumstances in which users are accessing your software or SaaS, and (as appropriate), other software and websites/SaaSes.
The key to subsuming Intensity within your software or SaaS is making a few technical choices that conform to the license agreement that you have your customer sign. Here are some (but not all) of the Intensity OEM settings from which you can choose, relating to incorporating desktop analytics into your software or SaaS offering:
| Default | Can Change to: |
| Show system tray icon to end-user, and/or individual usage report | No | Yes |
| Show when machine is on-but-idle or off | No | Yes |
| Pass back only use of YOUR software or SaaS | Yes | No |
| Show use of other local and/or networked software | No | Yes |
| Show use of the web as a broad category | No | Yes |
| Show use of individual websites (top-level domains) or even all webpage use | No | Yes |
The data resulting from the Intensity app as deployed on Windows machines in an OEM setting can be stored locally (rackable NT appliance running SQL Server) or in the cloud (your data center, or our data center). The app itself that goes on each Windows computer can be deployed from within your installer/install process, or separately.
